Van Gogh

Van Gogh was an artist who is seen to be one of the greatest artists of the world. Before this though, Van Gogh he was a preacher and this affected his art, to a degree. In his art career,he got severely sick.Under advise from others went to live quietly, here he committed suicide.

This sickness affected Van Gogh's life not only in changing careers, but also in becoming almost unrecognizable by his siblings. The sickness was depression. His brother said "It seems as if he were two persons: one, marvelously gifted, tender and refined, the other, egotistic and hard hearted." This led to seizures, sickness, and murderous acts. In fact, he felt so burdensome to others that it led to suicide.

I feel that anyone's condition could have been helped and the person suffering can get, if not all, then at least partly cured of their 'sticky spot' in life. If someone had tried to lighten Van Gogh up a little, he would have lived longer and been able to put more passion to his paintings and not to his despairs. So, if ever there is someone who may seem real down, do what you can to lighten up and not end up like Van Gogh, a person who gave so much, but could have continued to do so.

I agree with you. Even though at the time psychological therapy was not developed at all, Van Gogh could have probably gotten better if he had supportive friends and family behind him. Depression can really devestate people and no one can survive it all alone.

I think it is true that some people should try to lighten up those who are depressed. But, aren't there other therapy like group therapy? There is also medicated drugs for those who are depressed too.

i think this is totally true!
i remember with the virginia tech incident, the guy was antisocial? and i remember listening to reports on the news saying that if a counselor would have talked to him about his problems and such, or even just a close friend, then the whole thing could be avoided.

overall, great post =)

I also agree that some people should try to lighten up those who are depressed. However, a better way would to be getting professional treatment such as therapy.

I completely agree with you. Van Gogh was quite depressed. It is quite interesting how many great artist have some kind of psychological disorder. Depression can really affect people. Gogh could have continued his career if he was not so depressed.
